Meet the Lodge Manager

Mr. Bobby Settles is the general manager of GrandSlam Fishing Lodge, Mexico’s premier fishing destination.

Settles brings nearly three decades of experience to the property on Ascension Bay, where he has fished and lived for the past 23 years.

Settles’ appreciation for fishing and hunting began at a young age.  He was raised in South Texas where his grandfather and father engrained in him the values of good sportsmanship – catching or shooting only what could be eaten and always cleaning and preparing the catch personally.  Settles spent his school days waiting for the geese to migrate down and for the redfish to start tailing in the shallow flats of the Lower Laguna Madre; before and after school, he was dedicated to throwing a wet line.  In summer, Settles worked at a local plant nursery where he met Dial Dunkin, a man who changed his life.

Settles and Dunkin built a relationship over the next few years and after Settles attended Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, they teamed up to develop Hacienda Alta Vista.  Set on a cliff overlooking Lake Guerrero in the Northern State of Tamaulipas, Hacienda Alta Vista was one of the finest hunting and fishing venues in Mexico.

During his time at Hacienda Alta Vista, Settles was introduced to a Mexico City Banker, who also had an enormous influence on his life.  Together, over the next 23 years, the duo built a quality fishing program on Ascension Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay.  Settles fished the area and lived in the Sian Kaan Biosphere throughout this period.  He brings his experience and knowledge of the destination and fishing conditions with him to GrandSlam Fishing Lodge, where guests will also find an exceptional fishing program – lead and honed by Settles – along with luxury accommodations and amenities, and stunning oceanfront surroundings.
